MLL Telecom, a leading provider of secure managed network services for the UK public sector, announced that it has been appointed by Fife Council to transition and transform its existing Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure. The new WAN solution will underpin the council’s digital growth plans and bring innovation and significant community benefits to the council.
The appointment will see MLL Telecom replace the existing WAN infrastructure to deliver additional network bandwidth. MLL Telecom will provide an enhanced 10Gb capacity core network, resulting in increased bandwidth to council sites. The increased speed will support Fife Council’s future growth strategy, with MLL Telecom providing a clear migration path to upgrade from copper to fibre services over the term of the contract. Fife Council will benefit from significant cost reductions, as the new solution is anticipated to deliver in excess of 25% cost savings over the term of the contract.
Educational establishments across Fife will also stand to benefit from the new WAN, with MLL Telecom set to deliver 1Gbps speeds to all secondary schools in the region. This increased bandwidth will help Fife Council address schools’ demands for increased bandwidth for cloud and internet services in the classroom.
MLL Telecom has also pledged its own support to delivering community benefits, including supporting STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts and math) initiatives across primary and secondary education, creating apprenticeships for local residents, and working closely with designated local charities. It will also assist the Council in developing its strategy and thinking around IoT.

The announcement further builds on MLL Telecom’s expanding public sector customer base, following recent wins in Stirling, South Ayrshire and Perth & Kinross.
MLL Telecom has been awarded the 5-year contract, with the option to extend it by 3 years and then a further 2 years. The initial transition will take place on 31st August 2019 with the transition to the new infrastructure due to be completed by 1st September 2020.
