ETSI has gone on to release a report that outlines an overall evaluation of advanced integrated sensing and communication use cases and rollout scenarios, thereby setting the base for future 6G mobile technology. Developed by the ETSI ISAC industry specification group – ISG, this report happens to be a major step forward which happens to identify the crucial functional as well as performance requirements, which are indeed necessary in order to support the cutting-edge use cases.

The document happens to list out 18 advanced ISAC cases which happen to range from human motion recognition along with emergency rescue to autonomous vehicle navigation as well as industrial robotics.

It is worth noting that each of the use cases is explored taking into account the deployment scenarios thereby enabling technologies as well as required system capabilities. The ETSI evaluation puts forth three integration levels, namely, tight, intermediate, and loose, along with six sensing models, which include bistatic sensing and monostatic sensing configurations for both base stations and user equipment.

All these definitions go on to form an integral part of the proposed framework in order to standardize sensing capabilities in the future 6G mobile technology.

Telecom Italia—TIM has finally gone on to see the long-discussed €700 million deal in order to sell its international network and services called Sparkle. To boost BidCo, which is a corporate vehicle controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in the government of Italy. This also happens to be in collaboration with Retelit, a provider when it comes to communications and IT services throughout the Italian enterprise sector.

This agreement goes on to include a probable price adjustment when certain targets for Sparkles 2025 EBITDA are not met.

This sale is most likely going to close in the final quarter of 2025 once all the regulatory clearances are met.

IDC, the research house, forecasts that the global smartphone shipments went on to increase 1.5% year on year to almost 305 billion units in the first quarter of 2025 as the manufacturers paced up production anticipating an expected announcement by the US president, Donald Trump, on tariffs that impacted China’s imports to a huge extent.

The recent exemption by the US government causing any kind of smartphone import tariff from China goes on to offer a temporary relief to the US-based companies. However, heavy dependence on the China supply chain exists. Interestingly, the ongoing tariff volatility is kind of making the future planning more challenging and, in a way, ending up in many companies experiencing high levels of uncertainty.

The focus when it comes to the US smartphone brands, at present is to be taking advantage of the temporary exemption by way of building and shipping as much as possible. When it comes to the other side of the equation, there is a possibility that economic uncertainty may even dampen the consumer demand in the months to come. It is worth noting that the growth in 2025’s first quarter was driven due to the growing consumer interest when it comes to the latest models right from top-notch manufacturers, in addition to the sense of urgency so as to buy before the prices surge. Moreover, the recently announced 90-day pause when it comes to smartphones can further enhance the sales in Q2 of 2025, as consumers might seize this opportunity to buy before the possible re-introduction of tariffs.

Interestingly, the European Union has allocated €104 million when it comes to the development of next generation 6G mobile technology and is going to process its funding application on May 22, with participants all set to furnish their proposals by September 18.

There are also rumors circulating that soon to be launched, most likely in 2026, a flagship mobile phone from Xiaomi, the Chinese manufacturer, is going to have a battery life that is going to double the capacity when it comes to the latest iPhone and can fit into the same profile.

And if this turns out to be right, given the tariff war between the US and China, one can bet that there are going to be challenges ahead.

For those unversed, Xiaomi is a homegrown multinational corporation as well as a technology company, which is headquartered in China’s Beijing and is best known and even regarded for its consumer electronics, electrical vehicles, and software. Xiaomi also happens to be the third-largest manufacturer when it comes to smartphones across the world, only after Samsung of South Korea and Apple from the US. It is often referred to as the apple of China.

Apparently, the European Competent Framework for Quantum Technologies—QT, which goes on to map the landscape of possible competencies as well as knowledge and skills when it comes to quantum computing throughout the continent—happens to be updated in order to reflect the vast rapid development and changes within the technology.
