SMi’s 3rd annual Distribution Automation Europe

161

According to Navigant Research: “The next challenge for DA systems will likely be the management of widespread distributed generation (DG) and plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) resources in the distribution network. While common-sense system upgrades of weaker transformers and other elements are likely to accommodate initial deployment phases, longer-term DG and PEV elements will need to be integrated with DA technology to optimize operation.”

Against this backdrop this year’s Distribution Automation conference will cover several topics:

Enhancing the visibility of distributed (renewable) generation to determine total network energy

Electric vehicles – how will distribution automation help to manage evolving energy consumption behaviours?

How to use strategic fault level management to improve system protection design

How supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems are evolving to support the demands of distribution automation

How to improve communication system architecture to make it fit for purpose for distribution automation

Reducing maintenance costs and extending equipment life with condition-based monitoring

Combining network automation and interruptible service to increase capacity

Using data analytics to identify network problems and signal veracity from real-time information

Expert speakers include:

Prof. Goran Strbac, Chair, Electrical Energy Systems, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London
