Telematics Update will bring together 250+ market-leaders, including Ford, General Motors, Volvo, Toyota, ERTICO, Kia, Trip Advisor and Facebook at The Content and Apps for Auto Europe Conference 2014 (April 8-9) to explore how much money can be made from the automotive ‘virtual market place’ for OEMs and content providers.
One automaker that is investing the time of its R&D Department in personalised ads is BMW. The idea is that special offers are generated as you get closer to restaurants, gyms and other points of interest. The system would not just be dependent on your location but also on your driving history, leading to questions about how consumers’ data is handled. This is in addition to concerns surrounding driver distraction, although it does look like the in-car ads system will be opt-in rather than opt-out or fitted as standard. It is clear that advertising through the car’s infotainment system will need much testing and streamlining but it does present a clear, indirect opportunity for future revenues streams for OEMs. This will be a topic of much debate for years to come and will be analysed at The Content and Apps for Automotive Europe Conference in April – http://www.telematicsupdate.com/contenteu/
Content and Apps for Auto Europe 2014 (April 8-9, Munich, Germany) is Europe’s biggest conference focussed on content and apps for automotive and will tackle the business model, platform and data processing challenges that face infotainment. The Conference is in its third year and tackles all the major issues affecting the in-car infotainment market which is expected to reach $14.4 billion by 2016 (MarketsandMarkets). The figure does not include the goldmine that the exchange of premium vehicle data presents to advertisers, government agencies and the online community when collated by apps and that’s why this area of infotainment is attracting so much interest. Jack Palmer, Project Director commented, “If OEMs and content providers can satisfy regulators with appropriate big data and privacy checks and balances, then there lies a huge opportunity for them to make the car pay post-sale!”. He continued, “Our C-level speakers such as Kenneth Malmberg of GM and Alastair Cotterill of Facebook will be discussing how to mitigate driver’s concerns about the use of personal data by creating a standout user experience at Content and Apps for Auto Europe 2014 in April”.
