Sierra Wireless today announced that PSA Peugeot Citroen, in collaboration with Bouygues Telecom, selected Sierra Wireless to provide the innovative 3G USB key that powers the new Peugeot Connect Apps system. Designed specifically for automotive use, this key incorporates 3G wireless connectivity, GPS positioning and advanced processing capabilities in a compact, plug-and-play form factor.

When the 3G key is plugged into the vehicle, it enables touch-screen access to the Peugeot Connect Apps service, operated by Bouygues Telecom. This service provides drivers with valuable real-time information on traffic conditions, weather, and navigation, as well as information about parking, fuel stations, hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, and other services nearby.

PSA Peugeot Citroen and Bouygues Telecom selected Sierra Wireless based on the company’s ability to bring innovative products to the market, its expertise in providing connectivity for automotive applications, and its extensive experience with 3G networks worldwide. Peugeot Connect Apps will be available in new Peugeot vehicles in 17 countries, starting this fall with the Peugeot 208.

“Peugeot Connect Apps is designed for the automobile and needs to roam seamlessly from country to country,” said Frank Moine, Director of the M2M Business Unit for Bouygues Telecom. “Sierra Wireless offered tremendous depth and expertise in ensuring the kind of seamless roaming experience we needed to provide to our customers, as well as automotive expertise to support the particular needs of a compact device that needed to be tough enough to operate continuously in a vehicle environment.”

“Peugeot Connect Apps is a truly innovative service that illustrates the value of in-vehicle wireless connectivity,” said Didier Dutronc, Senior Vice President, M2M Embedded Solutions for Sierra Wireless. “We are excited to play a role in what we really believe is a future of connected cars that provide true value to their drivers, both in terms of safety and in enhancing their lives.”
